7 Strategies to Overcome Fear of Failure

1. Overcome your insecurities: - To start with, stop comparing yourself to others. You may not have the skills that someone else has but you may hold something more precious than others and still be unaware of it. Hence, focus on exploring your strengths and put in efforts to develop the skills you wish to possess.

2. Kick out the fear of ridicule: -. A lot of people dread failure because of the mockery that might follow from friends, relatives, neighbours and the society. Get rid of the ‘log kya kahenge’ obsession. Accept that some people will be glad to see you fail and even happier to see you give up. Let their criticisms fuel your determination to rise and move ahead.

3. Develop power thoughts: - You can talk yourself into feeling discouraged or empowered. Instead of saying “It’s all over if I fail”, say “I can handle anything that comes my way”, remembering to match your physiology to your power injecting words. Straighten your posture, keep your chin up and with a smile on your lips declare, “It’s wonderful to be alive”.

4. Build your self-worth: - A FAIL or PASS remark is not an indicator of your worth. Talk to someone who has overcome failures and has a spirit of optimism. Seek professional help from counsellors. The therapeutic process will ease your anxiety and you could gain a fresh perspective of dealing with your circumstances.

5.Take control of your emotions: - When the outcome does not meet your expectations, it can cause emotional discomfort. You may feel sad, hurt and angry. But it’s up to you to decide how long you want these feelings to rule you-for an hour, a day, a week or forever. When you exercise control over your negative emotions, your exercising control over the impact of the disappointment on your life. Write down, objectively, all possible reasons for the undesired outcome. Then chalk out a plan to achieve your goals, being careful to avoid the mistakes you committed previously.

6. Change your view of failing: - Failing is temporary and as such a normal part of our human existence. Recall the first time you sat on a bicycle. You probably fell several times and may have even suffered serious bruises on your limbs before you learned to ride like a pro. Had you not continued to get back up with every fall, you would have added to the list of several thousand non-riders who quit too early. We all fail. Every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow. Don’t let the pain of failing keep you from trying.

7. Never give up: - The best things in life don’t come easy. The greatest and most successful people are those who have failed the most. Yet they persisted. Victory comes to those who don’t quit despite failures, ridicule, hardships and rejections. Be strong!
